What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine.
Are there different types of Scoliosis?
Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: Makes up 80% of all scoliosis cases. Characterized by curve pattern, rotation of vertebrae, gender, decompensation.
Congenital Scoliosis: Result of vertebral failure to form or segment. Progression of curve is usually rapid.
Neuromuscular Scoliosis: This can be a result of cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy/atrophy, polio, and myelomenigocele. Orthotic goals are to improve respiratory function, support, prevent deformity and free upper extremities.
